My approach

I work with the whole person: body, mind and soul

Pain and suffering often remain when they have not been fully seen, understood or given space to be felt.

You may understand a great deal about your history and still feel the emotional weight of it within you.

A place to be heard

I listen deeply to what is causing you to suffer, with acceptance, curiosity and without judgement or labels. I am interested in what is taking you out of alignment with your true self, your values and who you are authentically.

You do not need to retell your trauma story or force yourself into painful memories before you are ready. Every feeling and body response has something to tell us about what we have experienced, what we need and what may still need our attention.

I want to understand your current issues as a health care professional and why and what you feel and find hard  in your work life and how that affects who you are in other relationships.  Have you had enough of the role of caring?  Do the needs of others feel overwhelming? Has your own pain and hurt begun to arise with nowhere to take this?  Is there shame about feeling so much? Is anxiety a prominent feature of your work life right now and you do know where it came from?  Is the anxiety constantly apparent in an effort to suppress your feelings and also your trauma? Or perhaps you just feel sad and depressed all the time and nothing helps this.

I don’t want to delve into your pain from the past unless this is where you need to go to heal. I want to hear about what is causing you to suffer right now.

Psychotherapy and body-based Breathwork

My work combines counselling, psychotherapy, somatic therapy and body work with conscious connected Breathwork. Our experiences are reflected in our nervous system, emotions and the way we relate to ourselves and others, not only in our thoughts and stories.

For many people, trauma is not only remembered as a story. You may know what happened, yet feel that something remains unresolved. Body-based therapy offers another way of working with sensations, emotions and responses that may have been difficult to access through talking alone.

Breathwork has been used across different traditions to support connection and awareness. I use conscious connected Breathwork to bring awareness to the relationship between body, emotions and inner experience.

I take time to understand your experiences, your current emotional state and how your body responds to stress. I will always ask whether you want to work with Breathwork, and we check in with your body each session.

Anything unprocessed from the past will arise in the present as distress, disowned feelings, anxiety, depression, or relationship issues. We will work together to understand and re-integrate this into the here and now.  You might already know what caused your current distress but you still can't shift it.  Working with Breathwork will allow a shift in your body and change the disconnect of your feelings. You will process a different understanding in your body and mind. You will be able to integrate this more into your current experience.

This work is not about pushing into difficult experiences or creating intense emotional release. You may work with your breath while seated, or you may wish to lie down and breathe. The work develops at a pace that respects your individual history, capacity and readiness. I remain present and attuned to your experience.

How we work

Why I understand healthcare

Having worked as a nurse for more than 40 years, I understand the pressures of caring for others and the impact this work can have over time. I have reached burnout in work I loved and understand how our own grief and childhood wounds can stop us from caring for ourselves.

My aim is to support you to develop a different relationship with yourself, your body and what you are carrying. You may begin to feel more connected to your emotions, less controlled by old patterns, and more able to be your authentic self.
