Who I work with

I work with health and mental health professionals who are living with the continued effects of childhood trauma and who want a more holistic way to heal.

You may have found meaning in caring for others because of your own experiences of suffering. As a wounded healer, your deep empathy and ability to listen and be with the pain of others may come from what you have carried yourself. Over time, continuing to give while carrying your own pain can become a burden.

You may understand a great deal about yourself already, including this part of you that understands other people’s suffering. You may have spent years in therapy, reflected deeply, and read widely. Yet the sadness, anxiety, shame, anger or feeling of being triggered may still be there. You may know why you react as you do, but still feel unable to change it.

Perhaps talking therapy has helped you make sense of your experience, but you return to the same patterns in your relationships, work or relationship with yourself. You may be tired of holding everything together, caring for everyone else, and feeling there is little left for you.

"I help people who have spent their lives caring for others come back into a relationship with themselves."

When your body is still carrying the past

Childhood trauma and neglect can remain present in the body long after the events themselves. Your nervous system may become activated by a colleague, a client, conflict, loss or the needs of people close to you. You may feel overwhelmed by emotion, shut down, withdraw, become highly alert, or find it hard to trust people. You cannot seem to understand why your current reactions are so overwhelming but know it is something triggered from your past.

You may have found meaning in caring for others because of your own experiences of suffering. As a wounded healer, your deep empathy and ability to listen and be with the pain of others may come from what you have carried yourself.

This can be especially difficult when you work in health care. You may feel isolated in your work, affected by the trauma you witness, burnt out, or unsure how to continue without losing yourself. You may question whether you are good enough, even while giving so much to others. Your wounded healer gets tired and needs support too.

I also work with people experiencing deep grief and loss, difficult relationships, long-term depression or anxiety, low self-worth, emotional overwhelm, and a disconnection from their body. Some are moving through a transition in work, family life or other big life events  and know they need more support.

A place to be heard without judgement

I understand that beginning again with a therapist can feel difficult. You may worry about being vulnerable, fear being overwhelmed by old feelings, or wonder whether therapy can really help after previous experiences have only taken you so far.

My counselling and breathwork practice offers space to be heard, accepted and understood without labels or judgement. I do not need you to retell or relive your trauma. We work at a pace that feels safe for you, with a combination of counselling, breathwork and time to make sense of what arises.

My hope is that you begin to feel more at home in your body; less controlled by old patterns; and more able to experience your emotions without becoming overwhelmed. You may develop greater self-compassion, a deeper understanding of your reactions, and a stronger sense that you can be your authentic self.

I offer in-person breathwork counselling in Port Melbourne, Naarm, Melbourne.
